Our main respiratory muscle, the diaphragm, can be weakened by lung disease. Whether muscle weakness or coordinative control problems—you can counteract these weaknesses of the diaphragm through targeted respiratory muscle training. Breathing is optimized, the lungs—and subsequently the entire body—are supplied with sufficient oxygen again. The muscles in particular suffer considerably from a lack of oxygen supply.

The diaphragm cannot be considered a classic muscle. The muscle fibers are distributed differently than in the other skeletal muscles. In addition, the diaphragm is not fatigable. Due to the different training modes, the diaphragm gets two main coordinative activities: Strength and Endurance. Thus, the recruitment of the diaphragm fibers is improved. The muscle can be targeted and addressed in a new way.
To strengthen the respiratory muscles, you have to breathe against a resistance. As with classic strength training, training with your own weight is possible, but only efficient to a certain degree. To achieve an increase, resistance is needed when breathing. This is precisely what Respifit S generates. Respifit S thus acts like a dumbbell for the diaphragm.
An average workout includes 20 repetitions for strength training and 10 repetitions for endurance training. This means you will need between 20 and 30 minutes for your workout.
After the device has been explained to you by the physiotherapist and your training has been individually determined, you can also train with Respifit S independently at home. With each exercise, the monitor provides a clear indication of your success. However, you should visit your physiotherapist at regular intervals for a check-up to guarantee the efficiency of your training.
No, this may well be the case at the beginning. Due to the deep breathing, which your body has not been used to for some time, dizziness or headaches may occur. In this case, we advise you to take a break.
The diaphragm can be strengthened very easily through targeted training. If you train 2-3 times a week, you will already feel an improvement after about 6 weeks.
Disassemble the patient handpiece. Then place the individual components in warm water and add some commercially available washing-up liquid. Then rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. For hygienic reasons, the handpiece must be replaced after 3 months.
